Introduction
If you are a fan of homemade jams and spreads, then you must try the Seville Orange Marmalade Recipe. It is a tangy and slightly bitter spread that goes well with toast, scones, and even as a glaze for meat dishes. This recipe uses fresh Seville oranges, sugar, and water to create a delicious and versatile spread.Ingredients
To make Seville Orange Marmalade, you will need the following ingredients:- 1 kg Seville oranges
- 2 kg granulated sugar
- 4 liters of water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Oranges
Wash the Seville oranges thoroughly and cut them into thin slices. Remove any seeds and set aside the orange pulp and juice.Step 2: Soak the Orange Slices
In a large bowl, add the orange slices and cover them with 2 liters of water. Let the oranges soak for 24 hours to soften the peel and release the pectin.Step 3: Cook the Oranges
After soaking, transfer the oranges and water to a large pot. Add the remaining 2 liters of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2 hours until the slices are soft and translucent.Step 4: Add Sugar and Boil
Add the sugar to the pot and stir until it dissolves. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Let it boil for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.Step 5: Check the Setting Point
To check if the marmalade has reached the setting point, take a small amount of the mixture and place it on a cold plate. If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it is ready. If not, continue boiling for another 5 minutes and test again.Step 6: Sterilize the Jars
While the marmalade is cooking, sterilize the jars by washing them in hot soapy water and drying them in a warm oven.Step 7: Jar the Marmalade
Once the marmalade has reached the setting point, remove it from the heat and let it cool for 10 minutes. Spoon the marmalade into the sterilized jars and seal immediately. Store in a cool, dry place.Nutrition
