In this article, we will be sharing with you a recipe for chorizo that you can easily make at home.Ingredients
To make chorizo, you will need the following ingredients:- 2 pounds ground pork
- 3 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 10-12 feet of hog casings
Instructions
Now that you have all the ingredients, let's get started with making your own chorizo.- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
- Add the red wine vinegar, water, and olive oil to the bowl and mix everything again until the liquid is fully incorporated into the meat mixture.
- Take the hog casings and rinse them thoroughly under running water. Then soak them in a bowl of warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them up.
- Next, take a handful of the meat mixture and stuff it into the hog casing. Tie off the end of the casing with a knot and continue stuffing the rest of the meat mixture into the casing, making sure to not overstuff it.
- Once all the meat mixture is stuffed into the casings, twist the casings to form individual sausages. You can also use a sausage stuffer to make the process easier.
- Finally, hang the sausages to dry for a few hours or overnight. This will allow the flavors to fully develop and for the sausages to dry out a bit.
- Once the sausages are dry, you can either store them in the refrigerator or freeze them for later use.
