- 225g caster sugar
- 225g unsalted butter
- 4 medium-sized eggs

Instructions
Step 1: Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.Step 2: Prepare the cake tin
Grease a 20cm/8inch cake tin with butter and line the bottom with baking paper.Step 3: Prepare the cake batter
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla essence and mix well.Step 4: Add the flour
Sift the self-raising flour into the mixing bowl and fold gently until the mixture is smooth. Add the milk and mix well.Step 5: Bake the cake
Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.Step 6: Cool and serve
