The Best Chilli Con Carne Recipe

- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tablespoon chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
Step 1: Sauté the vegetables
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes or until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.Step 2: Brown the ground beef

Add 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 1 can of black beans (drained and rinsed), 1/2 cup beef broth, 1/4 cup tomato paste, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce to the pot. Stir to combine.Step 5: Simmer the chilli
Bring the chilli to a simmer and cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and the flavours have melded together.Step 6: Thicken the chilli
In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1/4 cup water until smooth. Add the mixture to the pot and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the chilli has thickened.Step 7: Serve
