Vegan Flapjacks Recipe
Introduction
Flapjacks are a traditional British snack that is similar to an oat bar. They are perfect for a quick breakfast, afternoon snack or a sweet treat. The classic recipe uses butter and sugar, which makes them not suitable for vegans. However, with a few tweaks, you can easily make vegan flapjacks that are just as delicious as the original recipe. This recipe is easy to make and only requires a few ingredients.Ingredients
The ingredients you will need for this recipe are:- 250g rolled oats
- 125g vegan butter
- 125g brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons golden syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 50g chopped nuts, dried fruit or chocolate chips
Instructions
Follow these simple instructions to make vegan flapjacks:- Preheat the oven to 180C (160C fan) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Melt the vegan butter, brown sugar and golden syrup in a saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally until everything is melted and combined.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Add the rolled oats (and optional add-ins) to the pan and stir until everything is coated in the syrup mixture.
- Pour the mixture into the lined baking tray and press it down with a spoon or spatula to create an even layer.
- Bake the flapjacks for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. They will still be soft when you take them out of the oven, but they will harden as they cool down.
- Leave the flapjacks to cool completely in the tray before cutting them into squares or rectangles.
- Store the flapjacks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
