Vegan Samosa Recipe
Introduction
Samosas are a popular snack in India and other parts of the world. They are triangular shaped pastries that are stuffed with savory fillings. Traditional samosas are made with meat, but this vegan version is made with potatoes, peas, and spices. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, making them a perfect snack for any occasion.Ingredients
For the dough:- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
Step 1: Make the dough
1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. 2. Add the water and vegetable oil and mix until a dough forms. 3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. 4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.Step 2: Make the filling
1. In a large pot of boiling water, cook the potatoes and peas until they are tender. Drain and set aside. 2. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. 3. Add the cumin seeds and cook for 1-2 minutes until they start to sizzle. 4. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5-7 minutes until it is soft and translucent. 5. Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir to combine. 6. Add the cooked potatoes and peas and stir to combine. 7. Add the chopped fresh coriander and stir to combine. 8. Remove from heat and let cool.Step 3: Assemble the samosas
1. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. 2. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a disk. 3. Use a rolling pin to roll out each disk into a thin circle. 4. Cut each circle in half to make semi-circles. 5. Take one semi-circle and fold it into a cone shape, overlapping the edges slightly. 6. Fill the cone with the potato and pea filling. 7. Brush the edges of the cone with water to seal them. 8. Press the edges together to seal the samosa. 9. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.Step 4: Fry the samosas
1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. 2. Once the oil is hot, add the samosas one by one. 3. Fry the samosas for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown. 4. Remove the samosas from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. 5.
