- 1 teaspoon of fast-action yeast
- 50g of unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 150ml of milk
- 150g of currants or raisins
- 150g of icing sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons of water
Instructions
Follow these steps to make delicious Belgian buns:- Mix together the flour, salt, caster sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut the butter into small pieces and add them to the bowl.
- Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add them to the mixing bowl.
- Warm the milk in a saucepan until it is lukewarm and add it to the bowl.
- Mix all the ingredients together to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a clean bowl and cover it with a damp cloth.
- Leave the dough to rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
- After an hour, punch the dough down and knead it again for a few minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 1cm.
- Sprinkle the currants or raisins over the dough.
- Roll up the dough tightly and cut it into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the pieces on a greased baking tray and leave them to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C.
- Bake the buns in the oven for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Mix the icing sugar and water together in a small bowl to make the icing.
